Snap, Crackle, Pop!

In leu of the 4th of July, we had a week of science experiments and other fun activities that created a snap. crackle, fizz or pop! The highlight of course was the fireworks show on the 4th, but we had fun celebrating all week! We did all things explosive and reactive and the kids had fun learning, watching, participating, and tasting (in some) of these experiments....

Pop rocks and diet coke...release of CO2 fills balloon

Peroxide, yeast, dawn soap with watercolors...creates a thermal-reactive expansion that the kids can play in for a while before the bubbles fizz out.

Mentos and diet coke...always a popular experiment! the geysers shot higher than our house!!

We made 4th of July poppers....

citric acid and baking soda...working with color changing properties and fizzing...

Pop Rocks, POPsicles and popping water balloons..

And a favorite...fireworks. The PG show was awesome. Our pre-show was interactive and fun with sparklers. Calvin did get burned a little though :(
